Number Memory — Bank Buster

Eight digits on the first screen. The standard test starts at one and takes a minute to get here.

What this test measures

Same test, harder opening. A number appears, it vanishes, you type it back, and each round adds a digit. This version starts at eight, which is already above the typical span of about seven.

It exists as practice for the keypad and access-code puzzles that appear in GTA roleplay servers, where you get one look at a code and one attempt. Starting above your span forces chunking from the first round rather than letting you coast through the easy ones.

How to improve your score

  • Chunk from the first screen. Eight loose digits will not fit. Three groups of three, or pairs, is how anyone gets past ten.
  • Say them out loud if you can. The phonological loop holds about two seconds of speech. Rehearsing aloud genuinely extends what you can keep.
  • Do not look for patterns that are not there. The digits are random. Time spent hunting for a pattern is time not spent rehearsing.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the normal number memory test?

It starts at eight digits instead of one. Everything else, including scoring and the percentile, is identical.

Is eight digits hard?

It is around or just above most people's span. Typical digit span is about seven, so this begins at the point where chunking becomes necessary.

Is this from GTA?

It is an independent browser test, not affiliated with Rockstar Games, NoPixel or any server. Digit span has been a standard memory measure for over a century.
