What this test measures

Clicks per second is simply total clicks divided by elapsed time. This test starts the clock on your first click so reading the page costs you nothing, and stops on the exact duration you chose. While the run is going you see live CPS and a running count; afterwards you get your average, your peak rate over any one second window, and a percentile against other people who took the same length of test.

Five seconds is the default because it balances burst speed against control, and because it is the length most people mean when they ask what their CPS is. One second measures pure burst and will always read higher. Sixty and one hundred second runs measure something different again: whether your technique survives fatigue. Compare a score only against other scores of the same duration.

How to improve your score

  • Use a real mouse rather than a trackpad. Trackpads debounce input and physically cannot register clicks at the rate a mechanical switch can. Moving from a laptop pad to a light mouse is usually worth a full point of CPS or more.
  • Warm up for ten seconds, then run the test properly. Cold tendons under-report. A short throwaway run followed by a real one is the most reliable way to see your actual ceiling.
  • Click from the first knuckle, not the whole hand. Moving less mass moves it faster. Keep the wrist still and let the first joint of the index finger do all the work.
  • Relax every finger you are not using. Gripping the mouse tightly recruits the same forearm muscles your click finger needs. A loose grip with the palm resting is measurably faster.
  • Train the duration you actually care about. Burst clicking and endurance clicking are different motor patterns. Practising 1 second runs will not improve your 60 second score and the reverse is also true.

Frequently asked questions

What is the average CPS?

On a 5 second test with a standard mouse, most people land between 5 and 7 clicks per second. Around 8 to 9 is solid. Reaching 10 or more usually requires either a lot of practice or a specialised clicking technique.

How do I click faster?

Use a mouse with a light, short-travel switch, warm up first, and click from the finger joint rather than the arm. Once you are past roughly 9 CPS with standard clicking, further gains generally come from techniques like butterfly or jitter clicking, which many games treat as cheating.

Is 8 CPS good?

Yes. On a 5 second run that puts you in the good tier and above roughly 84% of people. It is a realistic target for anyone who plays click-heavy games without specialised techniques.

Why is my 1 second CPS so much higher than my 5 second CPS?

A one second burst does not have to be sustainable. Peak motor rate and sustainable rate are genuinely different capacities, which is why the two durations are reported separately and should never be compared to each other.

What is jitter clicking and butterfly clicking?

Jitter clicking uses arm tension to vibrate the finger rapidly over the button. Butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on the same button. Both raise the number substantially, both carry some risk of strain, and both are banned on many game servers.

Why are there no ads next to the click pad?

Because accidental ad clicks during a clicking test are classified as invalid traffic and get publishers banned. Ads on this site appear only below the content and on the result screen, never beside anything you click during play.
