Seven to nine is good, nine to eleven puts you in roughly the top tenth, and anything above eleven usually means a specialised technique rather than ordinary clicking. The single most common mistake is comparing scores from different durations. A one second burst and a ten second run are different tasks, and the numbers are not interchangeable. Why one second is always higher
Over one second you are measuring your peak burst and nothing else. There is no fatigue, no pacing, and a single well-timed flurry carries the whole result. Typical one second averages sit around seven to nine, with ten and above counting as good.
Over ten seconds your hand has to keep going. The rate settles, forearm tension builds, and the average drops by roughly a click and a half. That is why the ten second test is the one most people quote: it is long enough to be a measurement rather than a lucky moment, and short enough that endurance is not the main thing being tested.
Turning CPS into CPM
Clicks per minute is the same measurement on a different scale. Multiply by sixty: CPS × 60 = CPM. Seven clicks per second is 420 clicks per minute. Nothing else changes, and a CPM figure taken over ten seconds is still a ten second measurement however it is labelled.
Jitter and butterfly clicking
Two techniques produce numbers well above the normal range. Jitter clicking uses arm and wrist tension to shake the finger rapidly. Butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on one mouse button. Both can push a score past fourteen, and both are banned on many game servers.
This page is not going to teach either of them. Jitter clicking in particular puts sustained strain on the forearm and is associated with repetitive strain problems. If you see a score above fourteen on a leaderboard, that is what you are looking at, and it is not the same activity as the test you just took.
Hardware is part of the number
Mouse switch type, polling rate and debounce all sit inside a CPS score. A switch with a short travel and a fast reset registers more clicks per second than a heavier one, and a failing switch can register doubles you never made. Compare your results against your own past runs on the same mouse rather than across machines.
