How Race n' Chase works
Race n' Chase is our take on the Race and Chase arcade cabinets from GTA Online, which play like the classic into-the-screen racers Out Run and Hang-On. You drive from behind through five districts in a row: Beachfront, Downtown, The Hills, Desert Highway and North Pines. The clock starts at 30 seconds and every checkpoint adds 25 more, so there is very little room for crashes. Run out and the getaway is over; reach the safehouse after North Pines and you got away.
The twist is the chase. You are the getaway driver, and five wanted stars show how close the cops are. They fill while you drive slowly and jump every time you crash, and they drain only slowly while you keep your foot down, so three crashes close together will usually get you caught. Fill all five and you are busted. The rear-view mirror shows the cruiser on your bumper, and red and blue light creeps in from the edges of the screen as it closes. Traffic changes lanes from Downtown on, and roadworks close a lane here and there.
Pick one of three rides before you start. The coupe is balanced, the pickup is slower but tough, and the sport bike is the fastest and the slimmest but suffers most when it goes down. Each district takes about half a minute at a good pace. Your ride cruises the beach while you choose it, and Start puts you straight on the road; press Esc any time to pause, restart or go back to the menu.

How scoring works
- Distance. Points tick up the faster you go.
- Near misses. Pass a car close at speed for 100 points, multiplied by your combo, up to x5. A crash resets the combo. Near misses also charge nitro and cool the cops down a little.
- Duffle bags. Cash bags dropped on the road are worth 250 points and a shot of nitro.
- Checkpoints. 1,000 points for each one you clear.
- The finish. 50 points for every second left on the clock when you reach the safehouse.
Your final score is also what you get paid: one chip per point, into the same vault the hacks pay into.
What counts as a good score
| Points | Standing |
|---|---|
| 40,000+ | Untouchable |
| 28,000 – 40,000 | Clean getaway |
| 14,000 – 28,000 | Made it out |
| 6,000 – 14,000 | Lost them for a while |
| Under 6,000 | Busted early |
Reaching the safehouse at all usually means 20,000 or more. Past that, the score comes from how clean the run was: fewer crashes leave more time on the clock for the finish bonus, and an unbroken run of near misses keeps the combo at x5.
How to score higher
- Keep your foot down. Speed is what keeps the stars down. Brake only when there is truly no gap.
- Thread the traffic. Aim to pass cars close rather than wide. A near miss is worth more every time you chain it, and it charges nitro for free.
- Save nitro for after a crash. A crash drops your speed and spikes the stars. Nitro gets you back up to speed and cools the cops faster than anything else.
- Stay on the asphalt. The shoulder slows you down, and the palms, poles, rocks and fences beside it wreck you.
- Watch for roadworks. From Downtown on, cones and barriers close one lane at a time. Spot them early and change lanes before you reach them.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the Race and Chase arcade game from GTA Online?
It is our own take on it. Race and Chase is the trilogy of arcade cabinets in GTA Online's Arcade and Auto Shop, in the style of Out Run and Hang-On. Race n' Chase keeps the idea, driving from behind and clearing checkpoints before the clock runs out, and adds its own districts, pixel art and a cop chase. Benchmento is not affiliated with Rockstar Games or NoPixel.
Which ride should I pick?
The coupe is the all-rounder. The pickup is slower but keeps half its speed in a crash and copes with rough ground. The sport bike is the fastest and slips through gaps the others cannot, but a crash costs it the most speed and the most heat.
How do the cops catch me?
The five wanted stars fill while you drive slowly and jump with every crash. They drain while you keep your speed up, faster with nitro on. Fill all five and two cruisers pull in and box you in. You get a few seconds of grace off the start line.
Do I earn chips?
Yes. Every run pays one chip for every point you score into your vault, where they spend on the Diamond Heist Slot and card packs. Chips and cards are play items with no value, saved on this device.
What are the controls?
The left and right arrows or A and D steer, the down arrow or S brakes, and Space or Shift fires nitro. You accelerate on your own. On a phone, hold the on-screen arrows or touch the left or right half of the road.
