6-Letter Daily Word

Guess the 6-letter word in six tries. A new one every day.

How Daily Word works

Six letters gives you more feedback per guess, which sounds like it should make the puzzle easier. In practice it is harder, because the pool of six-letter words is far larger than the five-letter one and six guesses no longer covers it comfortably.

The extra slot rewards information gathering. A second guess made entirely of new letters is close to mandatory here, where on five letters you can sometimes get away with solving immediately. The upside is that greens narrow the field sharply once you have three or four of them.

Four to five guesses is a normal result. Solving in three is genuinely strong. The failure rate is noticeably higher than on the five-letter puzzle, which is the point of playing it.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 6-letter puzzle harder than the five-letter one?

Yes. The pool of six-letter words is far larger than the five-letter one, so six guesses no longer covers it comfortably even though each guess returns more feedback.

Does this share a puzzle with the five-letter version?

No. Each length has its own answer list and its own daily word, so you can play all three on the same day.

What counts as a valid guess?

Any 6-letter word in the dictionary list. Answers are drawn from a much smaller list of common words, so an obscure word is never the answer even though you may guess it.

Where is my progress saved?

In your browser, per length and per day. Closing the tab mid-puzzle does not lose your guesses.
