Beach Word Search

14 beach words hidden in eight directions. Drag across the letters to select.

How word searches work

The beach list is a day out in fourteen words: sunscreen, a towel, a bucket, a sandcastle, the waves and the tide, a seagull after your chips. It is a deliberately easy theme with a lot of long words, which suits people who like a fast grid.

SANDCASTLE is ten letters and the first thing to look for. DRIFTWOOD has a double O and a W; SNORKEL and FLIPFLOP each carry a K or an F pattern that stands out. TIDE is the short one and hides best.

The grid regenerates every time you load the page, so the same theme never gives you the same arrangement twice. Words run in all eight directions including backwards and diagonally, and your fastest completion time for each grid size is saved in your browser.

How to find words faster

  • Find the longest beach words first. SANDCASTLE is the longest entry at 10 letters, and long words have far fewer possible placements than short ones. Clearing them early removes a disproportionate share of the grid.
  • Target the uncommon letters in this list. The rare letters present here are K, V, W. Each one appears only a handful of times in the random filler, so finding the letter usually hands you the word.
  • Leave TIDE until last. At 4 letters it is the shortest entry, which means it has the most possible positions on the grid and hides best. Short words are always the least efficient thing to hunt first.
  • Read every candidate in both directions. Roughly half the placements in any grid are reversed. If an area looks empty, try reading it backwards before moving on.

Frequently asked questions

How many beach words are hidden?

Fourteen, from the things you carry to the things you find there. Several are long, so the ten by ten grid may leave one out and the list will show only what was placed.

Which beach word is hardest?

TIDE. Four letters, all common, no repeat. WAVES is nearly as hard despite the V, because it is short and the V sits in the middle.

Is this a good theme for beginners?

Yes. The long words give you plenty to anchor on, and the vocabulary is familiar. Start on the ten by ten grid and move up once you are finishing it in under two minutes.
