Christmas Word Search

14 christmas words hidden in eight directions. Drag across the letters to select.

How word searches work

The list runs to the traditional imagery rather than anything religious or brand-specific, which keeps it usable in classrooms and family settings. Several entries are unusually long for a word search, and GINGERBREAD at eleven letters will not fit on the ten by ten grid at all.

MISTLETOE and SNOWFLAKE are the two to watch. Both are nine letters with repeating vowel patterns that blend into filler, while TINSEL and HOLLY are short and hide better than their length suggests.

The grid regenerates every time you load the page, so the same theme never gives you the same arrangement twice. Words run in all eight directions including backwards and diagonally, and your fastest completion time for each grid size is saved in your browser.

How to find words faster

  • Find the longest christmas words first. GINGERBREAD is the longest entry at 11 letters, and long words have far fewer possible placements than short ones. Clearing them early removes a disproportionate share of the grid.
  • Target the uncommon letters in this list. The rare letters present here are K, W, Y. Each one appears only a handful of times in the random filler, so finding the letter usually hands you the word.
  • Leave HOLLY until last. At 5 letters it is the shortest entry, which means it has the most possible positions on the grid and hides best. Short words are always the least efficient thing to hunt first.
  • Read every candidate in both directions. Roughly half the placements in any grid are reversed. If an area looks empty, try reading it backwards before moving on.

Frequently asked questions

How many Christmas words are in this puzzle?

Fourteen, drawn from the traditional imagery rather than anything brand-specific, so it works in classrooms and at family gatherings alike.

Why does GINGERBREAD sometimes not appear?

At eleven letters it cannot fit on a ten by ten grid alongside the other words. Switch to the twelve or fifteen grid and it will place every time.

Which word is hardest to find?

MISTLETOE and SNOWFLAKE, both nine letters with vowel patterns that blend into the random filler. TINSEL and HOLLY are short enough to hide well too.
