How word searches work
The list runs from marine animals through seafloor features to nautical terms, which spreads it wider than a pure wildlife grid. Several entries are longer than average, and on the smaller ten by ten grid a few may not fit, so the puzzle adapts by placing whichever words it can.
ANEMONE and MANATEE are the two to be careful with. Both are vowel-heavy with repeated letters, both are seven letters, and both blend easily into filler. BARNACLE and PLANKTON, with their consonant clusters, are far easier targets and worth clearing first.
The grid regenerates every time you load the page, so the same theme never gives you the same arrangement twice. Words run in all eight directions including backwards and diagonally, and your fastest completion time for each grid size is saved in your browser.

How to find words faster
- Find the longest ocean words first. PLANKTON is the longest entry at 8 letters, and long words have far fewer possible placements than short ones. Clearing them early removes a disproportionate share of the grid.
- Target the uncommon letters in this list. The rare letters present here are K, V, W, Y. Each one appears only a handful of times in the random filler, so finding the letter usually hands you the word.
- Leave CORAL until last. At 5 letters it is the shortest entry, which means it has the most possible positions on the grid and hides best. Short words are always the least efficient thing to hunt first.
- Read every candidate in both directions. Roughly half the placements in any grid are reversed. If an area looks empty, try reading it backwards before moving on.
Frequently asked questions
What ocean words are in this puzzle?
Fourteen entries covering marine animals, seafloor features and nautical terms, from DOLPHIN and CORAL through TRENCH and PLANKTON to SALVAGE and HARBOUR.
Which words are hardest to spot?
ANEMONE and MANATEE. Both are seven letters, both are vowel-heavy with repeated letters, and both dissolve into random filler easily. BARNACLE and PLANKTON, with their consonant clusters, are far quicker.
Do all fourteen words fit on the smallest grid?
Not always. A ten by ten grid cannot always accommodate every entry without conflicts, so the generator places as many as it can and the word list shows only what actually made it in.
