How word searches work
The Fourth of July list pairs the celebration — fireworks, a barbecue, a parade, sparklers — with the civic vocabulary behind it: liberty, freedom, the anthem, Congress. That mix keeps the grid from being all one texture, which matters because words that share a topic often share letters too.
FIREWORKS and SPARKLER carry the rare letters here, and both are long. Between them they account for most of the K and W in the puzzle, so the moment you spot either letter in the filler you are probably already looking at the word.
The grid regenerates every time you load the page, so the same theme never gives you the same arrangement twice. Words run in all eight directions including backwards and diagonally, and your fastest completion time for each grid size is saved in your browser.

How to find words faster
- Find the longest Fourth of July words first. FIREWORKS is the longest entry at 9 letters, and long words have far fewer possible placements than short ones. Clearing them early removes a disproportionate share of the grid.
- Target the uncommon letters in this list. The rare letters present here are K, W, Y. Each one appears only a handful of times in the random filler, so finding the letter usually hands you the word.
- Leave FLAG until last. At 4 letters it is the shortest entry, which means it has the most possible positions on the grid and hides best. Short words are always the least efficient thing to hunt first.
- Read every candidate in both directions. Roughly half the placements in any grid are reversed. If an area looks empty, try reading it backwards before moving on.
Frequently asked questions
How many Fourth of July words are hidden?
Fourteen, mixing the party side of the day with the history it marks. On the smallest grid one long word may be left out, and the word list only shows what was placed.
Which word is the hardest?
FLAG. Four letters, all of them common, and no distinctive shape. It has more possible positions than anything else on the list and tends to be found last.
Does the puzzle change between visits?
Yes. Every load produces a new arrangement of the same fourteen words, so replaying is worthwhile. Your best completion time for each grid size is kept in your browser.
